Walking Festival is ‘huge success’

This year’s Frome Walking Festival has been hailed a ‘huge success’ after more than 200 people took part in 12 walks over three days.

Organised by the Frome branch of ‘Walkers are Welcome’, the event ran from 8th to 10th August.

Les Stather, of Walkers are Welcome, said, “We were lucky this year to be blessed with very good walking weather; no rain and no heatwave. Virtually everybody who joined a walk learnt something about the town that they did not already know or discovered new areas that they had not walked before.

“Frome is a Walkers are Welcome town and the committee would like to thank Frome Town Council, Frome Selwood Rotary and all the walk leaders for all their help in organising the festival. Frome is surrounded by beautiful walking country, which is showcased by The Frome Outer Wheel, a 16.5-mile ring around the town. Many of Frome’s green spaces and some of its industrial heritage can be enjoyed from the 5-mile inner ring. Maps of The Frome Wheel can be purchased from most bookshops in the town or at the town council offices.”

Mayor of Frome Anita Collier said, “Thank you to the Walking Festival team for another wonderful event, offering the chance to explore Frome’s history and heritage, learn about plants and trees, or just take in some beautiful scenery in and around the town. Here’s to many more!”
