OPENING its doors this winter as a warm space, The Good Heart in Frome will be providing a warm hub, free wifi, tea by donation and a pay it forward scheme for lunch and dinner. The venue in Palmer Street is available for anyone in need of somewhere to go this winter.
One of the board members of the non-profit group, Rebecca Collins, said, “The Good Heart is not just a café, but a community space to help us all be more kind. With the help of volunteers, we’re aiming to keep it open all through the winter as one of Frome’s ‘warm spaces.’
“It will be open Tuesday to Sunday 12pm to 7pm. We’ve brought in comfy chairs, a sofa and free wifi and will be offering tea by donation as well as our popular pay-it-forward scheme for lunch and dinner. Namdi will continue to provide his home-cooked plant-based meals from 12pm to 3pm and 5pm to 7pm, and in the mornings and evenings, we’re inviting other organisations and therapists to make use of either the main café space or our new therapy room.”
The Good Heart team will also be celebrating World Kindness Day on Sunday 13th November with a tea party at Frome Town Hall. The fun will start at 2.30pm and includes a planning session for the second Frome Kindness Festival (5th to 11th March 2023). Everyone is welcome. Find out more and book your place at www.thegoodheart.uk.
To celebrate its colourful summer makeover and refurbishment, the team also threw a thank you party on Friday 7th October. The makeover was carried out and funded by around 30 volunteers and supported by generous donations from local businesses such as Avalon Interiors.
Frome Mayor, cllr Sarah Butler, thanked the volunteers and spoke movingly about the importance of kindness, especially when people are facing so many difficulties at the moment.
The Good Heart has also begun the search for a Festival Administrator for the 2023 Kindness Festival. “We’re looking for someone warm-hearted, efficient and dynamic who can provide practical administrative support for our volunteer teams” said Alison Murdoch, another of the board members. This is a flexible, part-time post twenty hours per week from December to March. The closing date for applications is Saturday 12 November and you can find out how to apply on The Good Heart website. Thank you for anything you can do to help us find the best possible candidate!”
