Counselling charity We Hear You is once again offering free group therapy for people living with and beyond a diagnosis of cancer or other life-threatening condition.
The groups are facilitated by two professional counsellors, providing a safe, confidential space to talk through feelings with people who have had similar experiences. The charity has offered one-to-one counselling for people affected by cancer or a life-threatening condition since 1994 and added group therapy to its portfolio of services in 2017, thanks to a grant from Macmillan Cancer Support.
Cath Wilkins, clinical manager at WHY said, “The positive impact of our one-to-one counselling service for people coping with cancer or a life-threatening condition is beyond question and we’re proud to have provided support to people in the communities we serve for almost 25 years. However, we have found that it can also be very beneficial for people to share their experiences with those in similar situations. Being able to express feelings in a safe and confidential environment, facilitated by professional counsellors, can provide a healing experience with opportunities for learning and self-growth. Our groups are a valuable addition to the services we offer and allow us to reach more people who need our help. We are delighted to have secured funding for this important work from Macmillan.”
The next course of group therapy runs weekly in Frome Town Hall on Wednesdays from 9th January until 27th March from 10.30am-12pm. It may be possible to join the group slightly later in January provided there are spaces available.
