DONATIONS of ‘gently worn’ or new underwear are being collected for charity at Frome Community Hospital. Sister Jane Durant, lead nurse in the ambulatory and assessment unit, came across the little-known charity Smalls for All.
Jane felt inspired to start a collection for the charity and involve her colleagues at Frome Community Hospital to help.
Jane said, “We felt here in the hospital, that as we have easy access to this form of underwear and take these items for granted, for those females who are less fortunate than ourselves and live in remote areas of Africa, this is a luxury.”
Initially Jane was collecting from ward staff by donating old bras into a purpose-made highly colourful box. The box filled quickly, so it was opened up to the general public.
The items collected are all destined for Africa with a guarantee that none will end up in landfill.
If you have any bras (new and used) or pants (new only), you can find the donation box in the reception area at Frome Community Hospital until the end of July.
