THE FORMER Weaver pub situated on The Butts in Frome has been demolished but there are “no plans” for the now vacant land.
Frome Reclamation say they demolished the building last week because the building had become unsafe.
Steve Horler, from Frome Reclamation said, “The building is on land that we own but it has become rotten and dangerous, so we want to clear the site.
“We have had planning permission to build local housing on the site refused in the past. At the moment, we have no plans to build on the empty space.”
Two years ago, Frome Reclamation filed a planning application to build six two-bedroom flats and two-bedroom houses with access and parking. The application was rejected by Frome Town Council.
Chair of Frome Town Council’s planning department Graham Burgess commented, “Frome Reclamation own the land that the Weaver pub is built on, so they can go ahead with the demolition works. It is only if they wish to build new properties that planning permission would need to be filed.”
