Frome’s Ryan Wheeler recorded his most impressive win to date in front of a strong following of fans, who had made the trip to Bristol City’s Ashton Gate stadium to support their home-grown boxer.
In his sixth professional fight Wheeler faced a tough test against Andy Harris, a durable, far more experienced fighter from Gloucester.
Boxing superbly throughout, Wheeler rocked Harris in the third round with a strong left hook. Harris clearly in trouble used all his experience to hold on to Wheeler and recovered well to see out the round.
Showing a range of shot selections and good movement, Wheeler was adjudged to win every round by referee Martin Williams, scoring 40-36.
Speaking after the fight Wheeler took the time to thank every one of the 100+ travelling fans from Frome.
Wheeler said, “I am blown away by the support people have shown me and I can’t wait to get back in the ring to repay the support of the town.”
Wheeler, who ran the Frome Half Marathon earlier this month, is likely to take some time off before looking forward to his next fight around October.
Ryan would like to thank his main sponsors: The RACS Group, Piling Equipment, Ricky Fenby, Postlebury Breakdown, MetroRod, MNKO and Clive Lewis.
