A local solicitors’ practice has become aware of unregulated firms targeting the elderly in the area, offering to set up Trust funds to protect their assets against potential healthcare costs.
These firms are charging astronomical fees, often in excess of £3,000.
FDC Law Solicitors have had an office in Frome since 1650 and continue to recruit experts in a range of legal services in order to serve the local community.
Darrell Collins (TEP), partner and head of the private client department in Frome said, “It has become increasingly apparent that there is a huge demand for advice regarding Wills, Powers of Attorney and Care Fees Planning, which is where our significant experience can assist both our existing and new clients.”
Darrell, who specialises in Wills and Trusts and is a member of the Society for Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) explains, “The STEP qualification is a trusted kite mark, ensuring the public of high professional standards, knowledge and technical expertise. All STEP members are subject to an extensive code of professional conduct, requiring them to act with integrity and in a manner that inspires the confidence, respect and trust of their clients and the wider community. All members are required to keep up-to-date with the latest legal, technical and regulatory developments.”
FDC Law strongly advises anyone who is approached directly, often on the door-step and in a pressuring manner, to seek immediate independent legal advice from a solicitor. All solicitors are regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority. As a guide, FDC Law can offer simple steps to preserve your assets for fees of around £600 to £800 – nowhere near the thousands requested by the unregulated practitioners. They say, “We are fully regulated and insured.”
