A Frome College student has designed posters advertising a forthcoming performance of Handel’s oratorio, ‘Saul’.
Year 12 pupil Tom Strippel, who is studying Graphics at A-level at Frome Community College, had his design chosen by Frome Voices to publicise the event.
As part of Frome Voices’ aim to involve the wider community, college students were given a brief to design three components for the performance: a poster, banners to hang either side of the stage and some images to reflect the music’s themes to be shown during the performance.
A spokesperson from Frome Voices said, “There were some very imaginative and professional poster designs produced by the College students, and we enjoyed visiting the college and looking at some wonderful portfolios of work. When it came to choosing a winning poster design, Tom’s stood out because as well as depicting the drama of the music of Saul, it also showed the drama of the battle between David and Goliath and following power struggle between the young David and King Saul.”
Tamsin Thomas, art teacher at the College, said, “As well as forming a large part of the students coursework grade, the project provided the students with some real experience of working with a client – it’s been a great project.”
Frome Voices thanked all the Graphics A level students and their art teachers Tamsin Thomas, Emma Knibbs and Doug Knight.
Saul will be performed at the Cheese and Grain on Sunday 12th March at 7:30pm. An exhibition of the slides and images the students produced will also take place. Over 120 people have signed up to sing in the choir – it promises to be a spectacular event.
