READERS and writers are always keen to support their local services, especially libraries and bookshops, but if you own a radio, or have access to the internet, there is another way you can find out about the local literary scene without spending a penny.
As part of its commitment to spoken word broadcasting, Frome FM hosts ‘Writers on Radio’ (WOR), a monthly programme compiled and recorded by members of Frome Writers Collective, and presented by Lisa Kenwright with support and interviews from the FWC radio team, Suzy Howlett, Sian Williams, Debbie Beale and Gill Harry.
The programme airs at 2 pm every fourth Friday, on 96.6 FM, the next being Friday16th October.
Frome FM report, “This month’s line-up includes an interview with local children’s author Michelle Robinson. Her new picture book, The World Made a Rainbow, is a wonderfully positive story, aimed at helping young children come to terms with the new and very different world in which we all find ourselves.
“Another guest is Dr Julian Abel, director of Compassionate Communities UK, who will be talking about Frome Medical Practice’s Compassion Project, which aims to harness the healing power of social connection. Julian’s book The Compassion Project (co-written with Lindsay Clarke) was launched at Winstone’s Hunting Raven in July.
“Writers on Radio also features news of upcoming events and publications, plus a couple of short stories. These are ‘Lost for Words’ by June Walsham, one the local entries to Frome Festival short story competition, and a runner-up story in the summer ‘Writers in Residence’ competition, a thoughtful tale by Peter Corbett.
“Current Covid-19 restrictions mean that studio interviews are not possible, but the WOR group have adapted well and now create their entertaining show through mobile phone interviews, which are compiled and edited by Lisa in her living room. Tune in on Friday if you can – but if you can’t, the programme will be available as a podcast shortly after the broadcast at http:// frome.fm/programmes/talk/writers-on-radio.
