A 1920s-style ball will be held in Frome next weekend with local theatre group The Little Victory Ball.
The event, ‘The Grand Peace Ball’, will be held at the Drill Hall in Keyford on Saturday 11th March.
The evening will have 1920s-themed fancy dress and begin with a performance telling the stories of four women from the years after World War One.
Through laughter and a few tears with words, songs and poetry, the actors take a journey from the Armistice to the burial of the Unknown Soldier.
Described as an ‘absolutely amazing performance, this is how everyone should learn history’, the show is suitable for all ages.
Organiser Sioux How said, “The Grand Peace Ball will be an extraordinary event so perhaps get a group together and enjoy what promises to be a truly memorable evening!”
The show is followed by a three-course slap-up meal made from WW1 recipes – Shrapnel Soup, Peace Pie and Trench Trifle, with a raffle and prizes for the best costumes.
Music hall artiste Kitty Whizz Bang makes a special appearance and will invite everyone to join in with well-known Edwardian music hall songs.
The evening ends with The Grand Peace Dance with popular music from the 1920s.
If that was not enough, there will also be a Cabinet of Curiosities with a unique display of souvenirs, a mourning dress from 1916, tokens of remembrance such as trench art and sweetheart jewellery which will enable you to gain a sense of the period.
Tickets for the performance, three-course meal, live music and dancing are £20 per person and there will be a cash bar.
