A FATHER and young son team took part in the Bath Half Marathon to raise funds for local charity Time is Precious.
Lee Davis ran the marathon while pushing Finley-Jack across the 13-mile course in a pushchair. They were also joined by a friend, Andrew Maidment, and were all dressed as Finley-Jack’s favourite character Sonic the Hedgehog.
Finley-Jack was diagnosed with Acute Lymphocytic Leukaemia (ALL) in December 2022. He is now in remission, but he still has another two years of treatment to go through.
The team raised £600 for Time is Precious, which works closely with the Royal United Hospital children’s ward and oncology team, which is currently where Finley-Jack is having his treatment until January 2025.
Finley-Jack said, “I had a fantastic time being part of the Bath Half Marathon. I realised just how lucky I was take part as children are not allowed to take part. I had a brilliant time being the child of Time is Precious. I loved people shouting my name it made me very special.”
Lee said, “It was a massive achievement to take part and complete the half marathon. It was a joy to do it with my son Finley-Jack and my good friend Andrew Maidment. My middle son Ryan even ran the last three miles with us. The atmosphere was amazing and the crowd was so encouraging. The memories will last a lifetime for us.”
Hayley, Finley-Jack’s mum said, “Finley-Jack loved being a part of the team and supporting Time is Precious! He really enjoyed himself. It was a fantastic experience for everyone. The support was amazing from the crowd as well.
“Finley-Jack even received a medal at the end of the race, which he is very proud of.
“We would like to say a big thank you to Time is Precious team for letting us be a part of their day.”
Despite starting at the back of the group because of using the pushchair, they completed the event in two hours and 48 minutes.
