DESPITE the fantastic summer weather, reading proved a popular activity for children in the Frome area over the holidays.
Nearly 100 more children completed this year’s Summer Reading Challenge, ‘Creepy House’ in the Frome College Learning Partnership area. Last year 363 children completed the scheme, while this year the figure rose to 461.
The children from Hayesdown First School broke their own record this year. 58 children read all six books to receive their medal and certificate (14 last year).
The library ran several successful related events – a wildlife workshop about bats, creative writing workshop with local author Dave Gatward and ‘Hootycat’ a workshop run by Artsplash.
During the half-term break on Wednesday 30th October, there will be workshops on sound for eight-12 year olds and their families, organised by the Bath Royal Literary and Scientific Institute. Tickets available at Frome library now. Early booking advised.
