Frome mother, Lisa Wells, was diagnosed with bowel cancer just weeks after giving birth to her second child. Yet this isn’t stopping her from raising money for her two daughters.
Lisa was diagnosed with stage 4 terminal bowel cancer at the age of just 31 last October, just short of two weeks after giving birth to her second daughter, Saffia.
As well as dealing with chemo, caring for her newborn, and dealing with her daughter Ava Lily, 5, starting school, Lisa has mobilised an army of local supporters.
With their help she has organised fundraising events to help leave a legacy for her girls and celebrate life, as well as raise awareness of cancer during pregnancy.
She has created a fundraising event culminating in a mass walk along the Jurassic coast on Mother’s Day on Sunday 11th March which will see Lisa and her following walk 30 miles with her daughters joining her for the last 5km.
Her initial fundraising target was £5,000 but as she keeps reaching and then passing each new milestone, she is now nearing £15,000. Lots of people have been organising fundraising events including parties, boxing classes and selling hair bows.
Lisa said on her Facebook page ‘Lisa’s Army Walk’, “This means the world to me and I am so honoured that people want to help. I am buzzing for this to happen, a party at night and my girls to walk with me for the last 5K. Your support will be amazing and I want to blast out as much as possible fundraising days, the lot.
“Thank you every single one of you for your support, it is incredible. We have so much fundraising that has been offered so kindly by so many people.”
Dan Wells, Lisa’s husband also commented on the page saying, “I honestly can’t think of life without her. However, I know with the amount of support we’ve received here, I know my girls have a future and I can watch them grow into a woman just like their mum.”
Lisa and Dan are childhood sweethearts, first getting together at the age of 14 and have been married since 2008. Dan continued with, “She’s not just my wife, she is my best friend, my sole mate and the mother of my two beautiful girls.”
At the time of writing, Lisa’s JustGiving page had reached £12,148 with over 400 donations of support.
