THE Rotary Club of Frome Selwood was pleased to support the annual concert of the Opus III Choir on Friday 7th February in the comfortable surroundings of Wanstrow Village Hall.
Local flautist Claire Bendle and pianist Nick Britton both made guest appearances. The Opus III choir is under the direction of Ann Stilton, one of the sopranos of Oakfield Choir.
The programme of the choir had something for many a musical taste, from ‘Glocca Morra’ of Finians Rainbow to ‘The Heavenly Aeroplane’ by John Rutter, via popular songs by Abba, Paul Simon, Cole Porter and many others, all rendered with verve and pleasing harmonies.
The musical performance was followed by a generous buffet dinner organised by the Rotary Club of Frome Selwood. A very respectable sum of £1,277 was raised during the evening for the YMCA Routes Café in Palmer Street, Frome and for other Rotary charities.
Opus III is a small ladies choir meeting at Shepton Mallet on Thursday evenings. The choir is currently seeking new members and, if readers are interested in joining, please contact Ann Stilton on 01749 342648. Transport is available from Frome.
