Batcombe Film Society is celebrating its 20th anniversary and opens its new season of films this Friday 14th September with Edie.
Edie is a British drama starring Sheila Hancock playing a gruff, bitter widow in her eighties. Having dutifully nursed her controlling husband following his stroke and the already strained relationship with her daughter worsening, newly-liberated Edie embarks on a trip to fulfil her dream of climbing the formidable Suilven mountain in the Scottish Highlands. The owner of a local camping shop, Jonny, played with appealing diffidence by Kevin Guthrie, comes to her assistance and as they talk, bicker and have fun, the pair reveal more about their lives. An uplifting film with wonderful scenery.
The Jubilee Hall, Batcombe, BA4 6HE, doors open 7.15pm, screening 7.45pm, 2018/19 rates: membership £20 per person, guests £5 per film.
