Kate Burles at Exercise Easy continues to grow her business…

Kate is setting up early morning bootcamp sessions in Victoria Park from the end of March. The sessions start at 6.30 am and run for 45 minutes so people can train before they have to get ready for work or take the kids to school. “It seems like the perfect time to exercise as it doesn’t interrupt the day or the evenings,” says Kate. “There is the added bonus that Victoria Park is so beautiful at that time of the day with the birds singing. It couldn’t be better.” Kate’s sessions work all parts of the body, using cardiovascular and resistance training and use both body weight and equipment. Kate says she tries to make them as fun as possible as, at that time in the morning, you need a good reason to get up to exercise. “If it means you can look good in your bikini or just feel energised & ready for work, it’s got to be worth the effort,” she added. Kate’s sessions are aimed at men and women at all levels of fitness. She guarantees you will leave the park feeling you have worked hard, but what’s more, see changes in energy levels, wellbeing, sleep and body shape if you follow a good healthy diet. Kate also takes one-to-one personal training sessions for people who would rather train on their own or in their own home and is also hoping to start her evening sessions in the park again soon, once she finds a suitable evening. So she says, “watch this space!”

  • Frome Wild Bunch Column: Summer time!

Hi – it’s Jane here, from the Wild Bunch.

As we enter July and the height of summer, it’s a great time to spend a few moments sitting back in your garden or local green space and just enjoying what the summer has brought.

If you were able to take some small steps towards supporting our wildlife over the spring, now they – and you – will reap the benefits. Flowers for pollinators planted earlier in the year should be in full bloom, full of insects buzzing and birds feasting. Bird boxes may have hosted one or even two broods of blue tits or robins, or tree bumblebees may have taken up residence.

If you have been able to establish a little wild area of long grass, perhaps by following ‘No Mow May’, you may be rewarded with new wildflowers – as I was when a Pyramidal Orchid appeared in my garden for the first time. What a summer delight!

  • MP praises Frome hospital staff for saving husband’s life

By Local Democracy Reporter Daniel Mumby

Staff at Frome Community Hospital have been praised by local MP Anna Sabine for saving her husband’s life earlier this year.

In a Westminster Hall debate about the future of community hospitals across the UK, the MP publicly thanked hospital staff for saving her husband after he went into anaphylactic shock earlier this year.

She went on to urge both the government and the NHS Somerset integrated care board (ICB) to ensure community hospitals were properly equipped and funded as part of wider reforms to the UK health service.

She made her comments in a Westminster Hall debate on community hospitals on 16th June.

  • Help shape future of Brunel Green

Residents are invited to share their thoughts on possible improvements to Brunel Green.

There will be a series of drop-in events hosted by Frome Town Council over the summer at the space off Brunel Way in Stonebridge, where residents can share their ideas and take part in various activities.

The first event takes place on Saturday 11th July where the council’s monthly ‘meet the councillors’ session will be at Brunel Green from 10am to 12pm, alongside council staff ready to chat about possibilities for the space, the connecting path and surrounding green spaces.

On Wednesday 29th July from 11am to 1.30pm, families are invited to ‘Come Dine with Bee’, exploring the wildlife that lives at Brunel Green. Bring a picnic lunch and look for pollinators, trees and insects using the iNaturalist app to record the creatures that make the area their home.

  • Planned site of 1,700 new homes goes up for sale

By Local Democracy Reporter Daniel Mumby

The planned site of 1,700 new homes on the southern edge of Frome has been put up for sale on the open market.

The Selwood Garden Community (SGC) will see new homes on agricultural land between the B3090 Marston Lane and the busy A361, along with commercial space, two care homes, a local centre (which shops and a possible medical centre), a primary school and a range of public open spaces and sports facilities.

Housing secretary Steve Reed MP gave the green light to the proposals in April, having called in the decision back in February 2025 and staged a public inquiry in Shepton Mallet in early-August.

Cooper and Tanner is now advertising the land for sale, with interested parties having until 16th September to put in their bids.

  • ‘Hard work starts now’ says Frome Town boss ahead of new season

Frome Town boss Danny Greaves says “the hard work starts now” as the Robins return for pre-season following last season’s title-winning campaign.

Danny has been reflecting on a “busy and productive summer” after guiding Frome back to the Southern League Premier South at the first attempt. And he has made clear the focus has already shifted to the next challenge.

“While winning the league was a major milestone, we have always viewed it as just one stage of a wider objective,” he said. “Following our relegation from the Southern League Premier Division 12 months earlier, our goal was clear: earn promotion, return to Step 3 and then establish ourselves there. We have completed the first part of that journey, but the hardest work starts now as we prepare to secure our status at this level.

“We are confident that we have the structures, processes and footballing identity in place to compete at Step 3. More importantly, we believe we have a squad capable of competing against the very best teams in the division.”
