Corsley Festival Choir will be performing a varied selection of choral music at their spring concert on Sunday 12th May.
They will be joined by the Corsley Festival Orchestra and local organist Gerry Hoddinott. The conductor and choir master for the performance is Stephen Smith. This is Stephen’s final concert with Corsley Choir, following his move to Hampshire.
The first half of the concert features John Rutter’s The Sprig of Thyme. This is a collection of eleven old English folk songs with gentle and mostly sad themes, with lovely melodies and skilful arrangement for choir by John Rutter. The second half by contrast is the gloriously exuberant and regal Coronation Anthems by Handel. The concert finishes with Zadok the Priest, which has been a favourite since the 18th Century. The choir will be accompanied by Corsley Festival Orchestra lead by Daphne Moody, with organist Gerry Hoddinott.
Pimm’s and soft drinks will be available from 7 pm. Tickets are £12.50 (children £5.00) from choir members or phone 01373 830362.
The choir are sorry to see Stephen leave, and hope to make his last concert a memorable occasion. A new musical director has already been appointed for the Autumn programme onwards – the distinguished choral conductor and composer Edward-Rhys Harry.
