Entry opens for this year’s Frome Half Marathon

RUNNERS are gearing up to compete in this year’s Frome Half Marathon, 10k and 5k running races with entry to the event now open.

Frome Half Marathon will take place on Sunday 21st of July at 10.00am, starting at the runners’ village at Frome Town Football Club.

The half marathon celebrated success last year when 700 runners filled every space available for the race.

Now, as entry opens for the second Frome Half Marathon, organisers of the 13.2 mile race say that up to 1,500 runners can take part in the half marathon, 10k and 5k runs.

James Sherwin, one of the organisers of the Frome Half Marathon said that there is still scope for the race to expand. “There’s a gap in the summer running schedule that the Frome Half Marathon fills,” he said. “Stroud hosts a similar event, and is a similar sized town and they have around 2,500 runners sign up.

“The race could become established as a major regional event and that’s what we are working towards.

“We are looking at ways to improve the half marathon this year, such as investigating a rolling road closure to get the streets open as soon as possible. Last year, we probably closed the roads for too long. We are doing everything we can to minimise the disruption.

“The core of the running route will remain the same, but we are looking at ways to improve the start and finish of the race.

“We have brought the time forward too, so hopefully this should help with the flow of the race.

“We are also looking for volunteers to help out on the day, so if anyone is interested then please get in touch.”
