FROME’S Hunting Raven Books will be presenting an evening of poetry, on Friday, 26th August, with two local poets launching vibrant new collections.
Gordon Vells is a writer and translator who lives and works in North Dorset. His poetry has been variously described as thoughtful and inventive, touching and funny, and emotionally accessible. Gordon’s new collection Wasp Disentanglement for Beginners reveals his fascination with nature and landscape, while also taking in various diversions, including cloud chambers, wasp cartography, missed ice creams, dementia memories and the personality of rain.
Nina Parmenter is a poet and mum from Dilton Marsh. Published by Indigo Dreams, her début book Split, Twist, Apocalypse has already been described as “an emotional rollercoaster” and “a must-have collection”. The poems are set on the cusp of waking and sleep, where chance, gods, magic and the whims of the universe are just a step away. Sometimes humorous, sometimes dark, and often drawing on the countryside of Somerset and Wiltshire, Split, Twist, Apocalypse celebrates the rich and surreal nature of living on this Earth.
It promises to be a fun and informal event, with both poets reading from their books and taking questions.
The launch will be at 7.30pm at Hunting Raven Books, Cheap Street, Frome and entrance is free.
