A wealth of literary events, including talks from well-known authors and writing workshops, are planned as part of this year’s Frome Festival.
The group organising the literary events, Words at Frome Festival, says this year’s festival will feature more events than in previous years, alongside the 10th anniversary of the Frome Publishing Fair.
Local author Alison Clink, speaking on behalf of the group, said, “We have many more literary events this year than in the past. Audiences will be treated to talks by well-known writers, writing workshops and the opportunity for budding novelists to meet with literary agents who will be coming to Frome to help guide them towards publication.”
During the festival, which runs from 3rd to 12th July, Frome will welcome Booker Prize shortlisted author Andrew Miller, who will discuss his latest novel The Land in Winter with author Emma Craigie; novelist and biographer Nicholas Shakespeare, whose political thriller Frame 37 is published this May; novelist and academic Emily Hauser, author of Mythica, a study of women in ancient Greek mythology; plus Satish Kumar, Winnie Li, Lily Dunn, Harriet Derioz, poets Kate Fox and Jenny Mitchell, and local authors Peter Clark and Annie Elliot.
For writers, there will be a creative writing workshop with local poet Dawn Gorman, a session on restorative writing with author and educator Kylie Fitzpatrick, and a session for children who enjoy writing run by local children’s author Clemency Brown. There are also talks by book cover designer Marc Ecob and literary agents Clare Wallace and Kate Hordern.
The week culminates with the announcement of the winners of the popular writing competitions: the Frome Festival Short Story Competition, judged by award-winning author Claire Fuller and now in its 23rd year; the Frome Young Writers Competition, open to local writers aged seven to 18; and the Writers in Residence competition, held this year on 27th June. The results of the Crysse Morrison Poetry Prize, founded in honour of a much-loved local writer, will be judged by poet Kate Fox.
All events are in the festival brochure and booking is now open. More information is available at https://www.wordsatfromefestival.co.uk/
