BATCOMBE Film Society’s new season opens on 23rd September with Kenneth Branagh’s unabashedly feelgood film, Belfast, based on his own experience growing up in Belfast in the late 1960s.
Nine-year-old Buddy (Jude Hill) must chart a path towards adulthood through a world that has suddenly turned upside down with rising tensions and the outbreak of sectarian violence. As his parents (played by Caitríona Balfe and Jamie Dornan) struggle with the most difficult decision of their lives, his stable and loving community and everything he thought he understood about life is changed forever, but laughter, music and the magic of the movies remain.
Heart-breaking and heart-warming and beautifully shot, mostly in black and white. (dir. Kenneth Branagh / 2021 / 108 mins / 12). Batcombe Jubilee Hall, doors open 7.15pm for 7.45pm screening. For further information, please contact Ann Biddle 850307
