VOLUNTEERS at the Frome-based charity, The Pod, have been presented with a banner thanking them for their support each week.
The Pod Plus group, aged 18-25, created a banner to say thank you to all the wonderful volunteers who help to support the club and its weekly activities.
The charity says, “The banner was presented to the volunteers on Monday 10th October during the bingo break and was received by volunteers Mary, Diana, Sandra, Lynne, Mike, Gill, Gemma, Christine and Julie. Thanks also go to Lisa, Tracey and Ryan who were not present on the night. Pod also wishes to thank all previous supporters including, Sam, Rita Lisa, Millie May and John.
“Since January 2018, we have been running community accessible bingo every Monday from 7.30pm to 10pm at the Cheese and Grain, but this could not happen without the help of our dedicated team. The volunteers call the numbers, run the raffle, sell the bingo tickets and other games as well as helping with the café, with setting up and clearing away.
“In 2022 from January to September the supporters and all who have attended have raised a total of £3,800 for The Pod.
“The Pod recognises that for many people bingo is their one weekly treat and social activity, which is really important in combatting isolation and loneliness, especially through the winter months. It is a place to meet friends, have a chat and feel the excitement of possibly winning a prize or two.
“The bingo strives to be accessible to everyone in its location, inclusivity for people with additional needs and affordability. Refreshments are available at low prices to ensure that people can afford to get out and meet friends.
“This is community bingo at its best and the charity are always open to suggestions from the community on how to make the experience even better. Come along and give it a try and tell your friends.”
Proceeds go to The Pod charity which run projects to support people with additional needs, young carers and families. To find out more about The Pod go to www.thepodcharity.org.uk/projects/ or follow ‘Charity Bingo at the Cheese and Grain’ on Facebook.
