FROME Lions have now donated £16,500 to charity, from the proceeds of their Lions annual charity golf day and the Lions Sportsman’s dinner.

Money raised through the Sportsman’s Dinner held earlier in the year was split between the Children’s Hospice (South West) which exists to make the most of the lives of children and young people with life limiting conditions and Dorothy House Hospice which is well known in the Frome and Bath area for their work of providing exceptional personal care and support to those approaching the end of their lives, and to their loved ones. Both received £5,500.
£5,500 was also presented to the chairman of Fair Frome, Bob Ashford, from the money raised at the annual Lions charity golf day.
Bob briefly outlined the history of the charity saying, “In 2013, Frome Town Council identified a need for greater support for residents experiencing poverty and deprivation. There are lots of ways that poverty can affect people’s lives, including differences in health, opportunities for education, chances to make the right choices and enough money to live on.
“Fair Frome is now a thriving and successful community organisation providing emergency food parcels, community dining opportunities and a furniture bank for Frome. The charity delivers hands-on projects, as well as working with existing organisations to build services for Frome and the surrounding areas.”
The Lions of Frome would like to thank Connor Construction (South West) for overall sponsorship of the Sportsman’s Dinner, Christopher Vincent for donating the venue for the night, Andrew Lee for comparing the evening and Martin Hemmett for conducting the auction and last but not least all the companies and individuals who generously supplied items for the auction and raffle prizes.
The club would also like to thank the Mendip Golf Club manager Stuart Disney and his staff for their very kind and generous support with the charity golf day, along with the overall sponsor Chase de Vere and competition sponsors – Rogers & Co, The Royce Clinic Ltd, Dave Lucey Ltd, SPW Mechanical, CW Accountancy & Penleigh Butchers, saying, “without which the success of the day would not be possible.”
