A FROME teenager has been selected to compete for Team GB in the sport of archery at the European Field Championships in Slovenia this month.
16-year old Phoebe Rose, who first began in the sport at the age of 10, says that she is ‘excited’ and ‘nervous’ to take part in the competition, which takes place between Monday 30th September to Saturday 5th October.
To support her attendance at the championships, Phoebe is appealing for sponsorship. “I have been working through my whole summer in order to earn money for my trip,” said Phoebe, “but now I am back at school studying for my A-levels, so I need all the help I can get.”
Phoebe’s mother, Lisa Wilkins added, “The family are extremely proud as she has worked very hard for this. In between her GCSEs and starting A-levels she has been working towards funding the trip in McDonald’s. Also she’s missed nearly every family gathering and party for a fair few years due to being at competitions!”
Phoebe’s selection for the Team GB field team continues her success from last year, which saw her win several national competitions. Phoebe said, “I am very grateful to my coaches, Gloria Mead and Gerald Farrell from Mere Archers – without them I would be completely lost. I also use Frome Archers’ training ground, which has been a great help to me.”
