ROTARIANS from Frome Selwood Rotary Club have helped the newest members of Frome College by funding the year nine DofE taster sessions, which took place recently.
The whole of the year nines were given the chance to spend a night under cover, at Pitch Perfect Camping in Woolverton, before hiking back to school the following morning.
Trip leader Theo Pavli said, “We can’t thank the Rotary Club enough for allowing us to give our new students this chance to experience what a DofE trip is like. Outdoor experiences help young people to develop self-confidence, independence, and self-esteem, as well as making them aware of limits, boundaries, and challenges.”
The Rotary Club also funded vouchers that will be sent out to the most vulnerable families in the community to help feed their teens over the school holidays. Rotarians, president Geoff Cardell and Guy Parkinson, presented principal Emma Reynolds with a cheque for £4250.
Emma Reynolds said, “We are so grateful to the Frome Selwood Rotary Club for this substantial donation. It will have a tremendous impact on the wellbeing of our students.”
The monies raised by the Rotarians comes directly from the townsfolk of Frome and enables much needed funds to be directed where they are most needed.
