The newly relocated Cheese & Grain Farmers Market is gradually bedding into its new location at The Boyle Cross on the second Saturday of the month.
“Despite 23 years in the Cheese & Grain, many Frome residents had no idea the town boasted one of the UK’s oldest Farmers Markets and so it was time to make the market ‘centre stage’ in town alongside the other shops and cafes,” said a spokeswoman for the market.
“As the market continues to adapt to its new location, and with strong links to the Frome Food network, we are developing an even more local and environmental focus and will be joined in December by a new local organic grower of vegetables from the outskirts of Frome.
“Award winning White Lake Cheese from Pylle will be making their debut with their award-winning goat’s cheese and Oliver Dowding is returning with his organic apple juice and cider. There is organic grass-fed beef from Pilton, pure bred Boer Goat meat from Midsomer Norton and spring fed trout from Mere. It is a market to stock up on nutrient dense food produced by people with a strong environmental ethos and it tastes great!
“A free community stall is allocated for Frome based organisations such as the Frome Seed Library and the Field to Fork Community Market Garden- so that the public can find out ways to get involved in these welcoming inclusive projects.
“The market is very much a traditional farmer/producer market which is a protected low-cost trading space run by SFM, a not-for-profit organisation, allowing food producers to sell directly to customers and build up trusted relationships often over many years. For example, Hollie of Beechridge Farm now has queues most of the morning of customers collecting their pre-ordered chickens and lamb not just for themselves but often for their neighbours as well!
“Come along on Saturday December 10th 9am -1pm and then we kick off in February 2023.”
