A CHARITY day, held by Orchardleigh Golf Club in aid of Dorothy House in August, raised £3,037.
“Despite the weather trying to dampen things, 132 players enjoyed a great day of golf with complimentary beer and soft drinks at the halfway house donated by golf club owner, Chris Vincent,” says a spokesperson for the club.
“Men members played for the H & B Cup whilst ladies and visitors also had their own competitions.
“Organiser Jim Worsley had overwhelming support from members with donations for a raffle and sponsorship from Coors Brewery, golf club reps and a huge donation from Mindset Training. A par 3 competition was also held at Cumberwell Golf Club. Jim had great help and support on the day with starter Pete Dicken bringing a colourful welcome on the 1st tee and his wife Sue booking everyone in.
“Mike Passingham manned the 10th tee where he coerced everyone into entering “hit the green” competition for an additional donation. We also had volunteers from Dorothy House who sold the raffle tickets and manned the halfway house to make sure everyone had their drink. Thanks to everyone and Jim’s hard work the final total raised was an amazing £3,037. Jim will be presenting a cheque to Dorothy House at the opening of their Firefly Woods on 14th September.”
The prize winners were:
H & B Cup – Neil Grant (on count back); Div 1 – 1st Malcolm Lloyd 39 pts, 2nd Mark Ford 37 pts (ocb); Div 2 – 1st Neil Grant 39 pts (ocb), 2nd Ken White 39 pts; Ladies Stableford – 1st Sarah Hynds 36 pts, 2nd Sue Sweet 34 pts. Visitors’ Stableford – 1st Paul Lewis, 2nd Dave Jukes.
Men’s teams – 1st Peter Snook, Chris Arnold, Neil Grant, Mark Cooke 119 pts; 2nd Pete Maunder, Tom Mayo, Rory Kelly, Malcolm Lloyd 117 pts (ocb): Ladies’ teams – Bowmaker winners were Ann James, Marion Underhill, Sue Sweet, Loes de Kleuver 108 pts.
