SHARE Frome, the town’s very own Library of Things has been busy in 2022 and has more change on the horizon.
The project works much like the normal library but you can borrow things instead of books. In July of this year SHARE became a UK registered charity and in September they separated from local community entrepreneurship business Edventure, who started them over seven years ago as part of their regular business start-up courses run for young adults.
A spokesperson for SHARE Frome said, “You may have noticed changes going on inside the shop too. A retro paint job was finished just in time for SHARE’s first ever fund-raising funk soul disco in June. This unique and fun event was a great success bringing staff, volunteers, trustees, customers and the general public together. We’re not stopping there as plans are now under way for the big library reshuffle, a two-day volunteering event on 21st and 22nd December.
“SHARE’s aim, to improve their existing Library of Things service which enables customers to help the environment by borrowing instead of buying new. How? By making space for more items and for inviting individuals and organisations to come and share their skills and knowledge about recycling, repairing, reducing and reusing; values that are core to SHARE’s charitable purpose.
“SHARE is also currently looking for a new Library of Things assistant to replace their long-term staff member Clare Krige. Clare has been an integral part of the team there for four years and will be hugely missed. And in the new year, SHARE is hoping to change its opening hours from the current 10:30-14:00, offering earlier opening and later closing on some days, in a bid to make borrowing more manageable for parents and people who work.”
