‘GREEN Platter’ Spoken Word onstage at the Merlin will bring some of finest poets in the southwest together to share an evening celebrating the beauty of our environment, with awareness of the importance and fragility of its ecosystem, in a timely collaboration that will be moving as well as inspiring.
Multi-prize-winner Rose Flint will be launching her new collection, Mapping the Borders, which won the Littoral Press international competition for ‘poems relating to nature, spirituality and environment.’ Rose’s words were adjudged ‘breath-taking and original, soaring from the page with a lyricism second to none – a body of work forged at white heat.’ This is the first public reading of these poems.
Also launching her new collection in Frome, Dawn Gorman will read from Instead, Let Us Say, which won the 2019 Brian Dempsey Memorial Prize and explores the landscape of time, reviewed as ‘sensual poetry aglow with its own humanity – a very fine collection.’ Deborah Harvey will be sharing poems exploring landscape, including some from her new collection The Shadow Factory and from her poetry walks around Bristol with the IsamBards.
Frome poet Rosie Jackson will also read, and the event will feature a live performance by Liv Torc who will share her powerful poem Human Emergency, which has had over a thousand appreciative views on Youtube.
Not only a feast of words, there will also be projected visuals from Julian Hight whose new book Britain’s Forest Story tells the history and legends of our most ancient trees. There will be an opportunity to buy the poets’ books and pamphlets, including a printed edition of Liv’s spoken word piece, in the foyer after the show.
The event is at the Merlin Theatre on Thursday October 10 at 7pm for a ‘green mezze’ supper prepared by Jo Harrington – (£8.00, pre-booking essential) or be in your seat by 8pm for this unforgettable evening of superb and moving words – £6.50 on the door or prebook at the box office 01373 465 949
