A CROWDFUNDING campaign is being launched to raise funds to install a kitchen in the Bennett Centre, a community building in the heart of Frome.
The centre in Vicarage Street has been serving the community of Frome for the last 150 years, initially as a school. Over the years it’s been used by lots of people; from Brownies to lunch clubs, ballet classes to line dancing, music groups to yoga, education classes to self-help groups – all sorts of activities, for all ages and from all walks of life.
A few years ago it became apparent that the building did not meet modern standards, and an enthusiastic group of volunteers took on the challenge of redeveloping the centre and at the same time, constructing three extra meeting spaces.
Through fundraising activities, grants and donations – as well as the work of a large army of volunteers – two out of the three floors are now completely finished. This year, work on the third floor – the cloistered area – has started, and the main toilets are currently being installed.
What the Bennett Centre does not yet have, though, is a kitchen, so currently it’s a mammoth operation to serve a meal in the building.
The project team of Peter Connew, Mandy Crook, David Daniels and Christine Holland have therefore launched a crowdfunding campaign via Frome Town Council’s crowdfunding initiative to raise the funds, and they would be delighted if you could help with achieving their target of £6,000.
Project team member David Daniels says, “This is a fabulous building, steeped in history and full of character – please help us to bring it back to life.”
The crowdfunding campaign runs until 10th December. To find out more or make a pledge, please go to: www.crowdfunder.co.uk/a-kitchen-for-the-Bennett-Centre-2
