The recent Full Town Council Meeting saw two incredibly talented, aspiring young Frome architects, Ebanie Powell and Claudia Titley, unveil their model of the former Social Services Building on Christchurch Street West.
‘The building with no name’ is to be bought by Frome Town Council to provide a local base, through a range of options, for community groups and organisations working in Frome.
The model is the start of an exciting pre-design process which will see Frome Town Council launch a naming competition for the building; to engage with members of the public, interested organisations and representatives from a range of services in the town.
The engagement process will consolidate ideas through a series of meetings and discussion groups and inspire a brief for the design of the building. The model, along with a short film, will give people the opportunity to get a sense of scale of the building and the unique possibilities it presents.
Town clerk, Paul Wynne said, “We are very excited about the possibilities for this building and want it to be an dynamic, vibrant, space for the people of Frome, designed by the people of Frome. We have had some initial conversations with groups in Frome and are keen to talk to everybody interested in using and sharing the space.”
This phase of the work is intended to generate conversation and reflection, to capture the memories of Frome residents who may have used the building in years gone by and inform what it will look and feel like in the future.
