As part of this year’s Frome Festival, acclaimed nature writer Nic Wilson will appear in conversation at the Assembly Rooms to discuss her deeply personal new memoir, Land Beneath the Waves.
Nic, a regular contributor to The Guardian, began researching the history of her local landscape and its wildlife with the intention of documenting the natural world – from giant sequoias to nightingales and chalk streams. But what emerged was something far more personal. As her journey unfolded, she found herself reflecting on her own childhood and her mother’s struggle with a chronic illness, uncovering how her connection to nature became a refuge during those early years.
Described as beautiful, moving and honest, Land Beneath the Waves will resonate with readers of H is for Hawk, The Salt Path, and Raising Hare.
Nic will be joined on stage by fellow Guardian Country Diarist and Frome resident Derek Niemann for an in-conversation event hosted by Winstone’s Hunting Raven Books.
The event takes place on Sunday 6th July at 7.30pm at The Assembly Rooms, Memorial Theatre (doors and bar open at 7pm). Tickets are £10 and can be booked via the Frome Festival box office at www.bit.ly/nicwilsonfrome.
