FROME Selwood Horticulture Society (FSHS) members have been celebrating what has been a year full of activities, talks, and shows, with even more to look forward to next year!
Jane Norris, the Frome Selwood Horticulture Society press officer, said, “Celebrating 12 months for the Frome Selwood Horticulture Society began the year before, when, after the isolation of covid, and like the hedgehogs of one of the first talks, we all came out of hibernation – and what a year we have enjoyed!
“Each second Tuesday of the month at Critchill School, BA11 4LD, at 19.20pm, excellent speakers have educated and entertained the average of 60 attendees. The AGM welcomed new members to the committee, with the stalwart of Frome gardening Ray Carver remaining as chairman. Under his guidance the Society, founded 58 years ago in 1964, has continued to grow and adapt in texture, colour and form, just like an ever-evolving garden!
“We have enjoyed excellent monthly garden related talks, three trips out; the much-anticipated May Plant Sale and the August produce show where members pitted for prizes their art and their apples, their floral art and their flowers, their vegan bake with their vegetables, and then we celebrated HM The Queens Platinum Jubilee. How glad we are to maintain our connection with Selwood Academy where our major events are held, and where now a tree has been planted to commemorate the 70-year reign of our late monarch.
“The year ahead will be looked forward to with anticipation, and with love to our members and families, as we support those in need. We hope the talks from organic gardening and seed sowing; gladiolus and herbs; the meadow flowers and botanical gardens; putting your garden to bed, vegetable growing and roses have brought pleasure. And we invite everyone to consider the New Year with the oldest gardening society in Frome. Come glow and grow with us!”
