THERE’S something for everyone over the next few weeks at the Memorial Theatre – from an evening with Aggers and Tuffers; a Take That tribute act and comedy from Rich Hall!
Back by popular demand, cricketers Jonathan Agnew and Phil Tufnell have teamed up for a brand new show, An Evening with Aggers & Tuffers, coming to the Memorial on Friday 1st October.
From their first Evening With Aggers and Tuffers in 2016, they were an immediate hit with cricket fans and non-lovers of the game alike and have gone on to sell out theatres all over the country.
Tuffers was the bad boy of English cricket in the 1990s, but the best spinner – left-arm or otherwise – as well. Known as The Cat because of his love of dressing-room naps and, rarely seen without a beer and a fag, Tufnell has always been something of a folk hero. Since retiring, he has carved out a successful TV career, appearing in I’m A Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here, The Jump, Strictly Come Dancing and he is Matt Dawson’s opposing team captain in BBC’s long-running series, A Question of Sport.
This is a fascinating, entertaining, no-holds-barred evening and you can tweet Aggers with your own questions. This is the ideal present for the sports lover in your life. The event is raising money for The Professional Cricketers’ Trust.
Back by popular demand for a fifth time, Take That tribute act, Rule The World, comes to the Memorial on Saturday 2nd October.
Rule The World have been recognised as the Number 1 Take That tribute act in the world. They appeared alongside Nicole Kidman, Hugh Bonneville, Julie Walters and the real Take That on BBC1’s ‘The Graham Norton Show’. After hearing Dan Maines speak, a stunned Gary Barlow said in amazement “He sounds like me!”. Gary then also praised the band saying, “These guys are good!”
This year will also feature the return of Tony Lewis as “Robbie”. The show is an accurate portrayal of a Take That concert and features all the biggest hits including ‘Never Forget’, ‘Greatest Day’, ‘Back For Good’, ‘Relight My Fire’, ‘Everything Changes’, ‘Shine’, ‘Pray’ and many more.
On Thursday 14th October, there will be an evening of mediumship with psychic Tony Stockwell.
“Remarkably compelling, amazingly detailed and always humorous,” say the promoters. “The popular star of TV’s Street Psychic, Psychic Private Eyes and Psychic Academy, Tony Stockwell has a long established credibility as one of the top intuitive mediums and has shared the stage all round the world with international mediums such as Colin Fry, James van Praagh and Lisa Williams.
“Tony demonstrates his belief that those who have passed can communicate with their loved ones with detailed messages frequently including names, dates and locations and all delivered with emotion, sensitivity and empathy. The evening may include psychometry, photographs readings and psychic prediction.
“Recent legislative guide- lines insist that any evening of mediumship should be billed ‘for entertainment purposes’. Tony certainly uses his natural wit, showmanship and Cockney charisma to entertain but more important, Mediumship has the potential to change someone’s life and instil in them a sense of peace, comfort and purpose. We hope that nobody can fail to come away untouched by the experience.”
On Saturday 16th October, the Memorial welcomes comic Rich Hall for his Hoedown Deluxe show.
Rich Hall’s comedy /music locomotive keeps on rollin’. Ever-evolving, ever-changing, Rich’s combination of keen acerbic stand-up combined with spit and sawdust alt-country lyricism is a “win-win” (Guardian), as sold out crowds across the UK have attested. Fans keep returning because this show goes where other comedians wouldn’t dare: Barrow-in-Furness for example.
Rich’s acclaimed BBC4 documentaries (most recently Rich Hall’s Red Menace) and his Radio 4 series Election Breakdown have established a whole new legion of followers. He’s also a stalwart of QI and Have I Got News For You. But seeing the Hoedown is a whole different experience. Gut-busting, rib-tickling and toe-tapping, Rich Hall’s Hoedown Deluxe covers the full anatomical spectrum.
The show is strictly 14 years plus – Parental Guidance, likely to be swearing and adult content
