Frome Anti-Fracking is one of a number of groups in Somerset and Wiltshire campaigning against unconventional industrialised gas production or fracking.
“At a recent meeting many people expressed concerns about water and air pollution, the industrialisation of the countryside and the fact that, as a fossil fuel, fracking will contribute to climate change,” said member Annabelle Macfadyen. “They were also concerned that the government is taking decision-making away from local councils in relation to fracking.
“At the meeting a number of action groups were set up including groups for research, street leafleting and sign making. Every Saturday morning members of Frome Anti-Fracking have been on the streets of Frome handing out leaflets and explaining the situation to people, many of whom were unaware of the impact fracking could have, including lowering house prices in areas where it has happened.”
The next meeting will be on 24th May at 7.30pm upstairs at the Cheese and Grain and everyone is welcome. For more information about the local group contact: Frome.antifrack@gmail.com
