Frome Medical Practice appointed the then 18 year-old Kaitlyn Meagor as an apprentice just over a year ago and the medical practice says the appointment has been successful for them and for Kaitlyn.
Kaitlyn was the first apprentice ever employed by the busy medical practice. However, so impressed has the practice been with the performance of Kaitlyn, that they have not only nominated her for the award of Somerset Apprentice of the Year, but have also offered her a full-time permanent post as a purchase ledger assistant in their finance department.
One of those whom Kaitlyn has impressed is practice manager, Karen Creffield.
“It is clear that Kaitlyn impressed from day one,” says Karen. “She is a very quick learner and has proved her adaptability time and again. She was originally appointed to work in reception, but has since moved on to work in our extremely busy call centre, an experience that requires tact, diplomacy and confident people skills. She has also supported our scripts team and at very short notice, stepped in to help as a purchase ledger assistant, where of course she has now been offered a full-time post.”
Karen is however quick to acknowledge the help and support that has been offered throughout the apprenticeship by Somerset Skills and Learning.
Dave West, who is their employer engagement manager said, “We are delighted that Kaitlyn has completed her apprenticeship with the Frome Medical Practice and that she has made such a positive impact on the business that she has now been taken on as a permanent staff member. Kaitlyn’s success endorses our belief that apprenticeships deliver excellent outcomes for individuals and businesses. Somerset Skills and Learning are proud to be part of her journey as her training provider.”
As for Kaitlyn herself, she describes her time as an apprentice at the medical practice as a great experience, opening up new opportunities and allowing her to learn new skills.
“I have thoroughly enjoyed myself working at the Frome Medical Practice,” says Kaitlyn. “During the last year or so I have worked alongside both patients and other members of staff. I am fortunate to be working in such a friendly environment and all of the staff here have been very supportive at all times.
“Following my own experience, I would have no hesitation in recommending the apprenticeship scheme to other young people, giving them the chance to work full-time whilst learning new skills and gaining a qualification.”
