An arts service in Frome has launched a limited-edition collectible trading card series to celebrate its 10th anniversary, with all proceeds going to the Black Swan Arts ‘Save our Swan’ fundraising drive.
Peradam, once known as Mount Art Services, has launched the unique series which features 50 artists. The cards are inspired by classic baseball cards and are a tribute to the many creators who have contributed to Peradam over the past decade.
Peradam’s Collectable Artist Trading Print Project is supporting Black Swan Arts, which launched a fundraising campaign earlier this year, following a rise in building rent and running costs which threatened the future of the centre.
As a vital community hub for artists, young people and vulnerable groups, Black Swan Arts has been the heart of Frome’s arts scene for nearly 40 years.
“This project showcases the creative power of people in and around Frome,” said Jennifer Kyte, co-director of Peradam. “Frome is a small market town that punches well above its weight in all sorts of ways – largely due to the grassroots efforts of its resident creatives forming a community that celebrates creativity and independence. This project shows off a tiny slice of some of the creators.
“They couldn’t do what they do without support – so please buy their work and take part in the project to support the Black Swan – we are all poorer without them.”
The Studio Collection features 40 cards to collect, available in sets of five random cards from participating shops in Frome. Volume one featuring the first 20 is out now, with volume two launching early June.
The Exquisite 10 Collection showcases 10 artists whose work has made a lasting impact on Peradam.
The cards are being released on a roughly weekly schedule over ten weeks, each accompanied by a sought-after shiny edition which can be obtained by solving puzzles and clues.
The final and rarest card from the Exquisite 10 Collection releases just before the July Frome Independent Market. The collector who gathers the most cards before the September market will win a signed print featuring all 50 artworks.
Participating stores include Black Swan Arts Shop, Kobi & Teal, Postscript, SEED and Studio Art and Frame. Jennifer said, “Studio Art & Frame are offering a deal whereby if you buy a 6×4” frame along with a pack of the cards, they will throw in a free mount fitted to the size of the mini print. Frame your favourites.”
