A LOCAL author and historian has published a book giving an insight into life in Frome during the first world war, and will be launching his book this week in the town.
David Lassman’s Frome in The Great War was published as part of the ‘Your Town and Cities in the Great War’ series, published by Pen & Sword Military.
The book tells the story of the town throughout the conflict and the irrevocable changes experienced because of it.
David said, “Although the stories behind two Victoria Cross recipients are included, this book is ultimately about the unsung acts of bravery carried out every day by the men, women and children of Frome and the surrounding areas.
“I am grateful to Pen & Sword for giving me the commission to write the book and to the individuals and organisations who allowed me access to their archives.
“I am also grateful to esteemed author and president of Frome Society for Local Study, Michael McGarvie, for writing the foreword.”
Frome in The Great War will be launched at Hunting Raven Bookshop on Thursday 25th August, 7pm (doors 6.30pm). To book your free ticket contact 01373 473111 or info@huntingravenbooks.co.uk
The book costs £9.99 and will be available from Hunting Raven in Cheap Street, as well as the Frome Museum.
David teaches courses for Frome Community Education on the town’s history and the next one is due to begin in September.
