LOCAL cancer counselling charity We Hear You’s long-time ambassador and fundraising extraordinaire, Inspector Rachel Clark, picked up an award at the ‘Outstanding Policing Awards 2024’, which took place on 12th March.
She was commended for representing the police value of caring. Avon and Somerset Police say, “Rachel’s role covers five police stations and dozens of officers and staff. She consistently puts others first, ensuring the welfare of her colleagues as well as making time for victims of crime and the communities she serves.
“Outside work she gives up her free time to help others, raising thousands for a local cancer charity over the past 11 years and delivering food and support to those in need on Christmas Day.”
Rachel said, “It was a wonderful evening celebrating success and recognising so much good work that goes on in and around our constabulary, often under very difficult circumstances. I feel extremely privileged to be able to care for others within the organisation and in my community.
“We underestimate the power of conversation and support; the smallest act of caring has the potential to turn someone’s life around. In the challenging environments that we work in, we owe it to each other to care. I am truly humbled to work and volunteer alongside so many inspiring individuals.”
A spokesperson for WHY, which is based in Frome said, “We are so proud of Rachel’s ongoing support, in memory of her mum. Rachel is running a mile a day for WHY’s 30th anniversary. If you spot Rachel around town, feel free to join her on a run or cheer her on.”
