LEGENDARY comedian, Ben Elton, kicks off his first tour in 15 years at Frome next year.
Ben Elton, a multi-award winning novelist, playwright, television writer, screen writer and stand-up comedian, will launch his UK tour at the Cheese and Grain on Saturday 14th September. More than 30 years ago, Ben Elton exploded into the national consciousness hosting Channel 4’s ground-breaking Saturday Live. Now, after a 15-year absence, the Godfather of modern stand-up returns to the medium he did so much to define. Back on the road with an all new stand-up show, Ben promises to try and make sense of a world which appears to have gone stark raving mad.
And he’s chosen Frome for his very first performance.
Ben has been one of the UK’s most successful live acts for almost 30 years, last touring in 2005/6. In 1990, he co-hosted the Nelson Mandela Celebration at Wembley Stadium. He hosted the Brits in 1997 and 1998 and The Royal Variety Performance in 2000. He writes all of his own material. He is also known for co-writing Blackadder with Richard Curtis, writing We Will Rock You alongside the music of Queen and winning major awards across his artistic spectrum including BAFTAs, Oliviers and British Comedy Awards. He is also a theatre, screen and TV director, and a very occasional actor.
As Ben says, “The last time I toured, I was still smarter than my phone. Things have definitely taken a funny turn.”
