THE community came together on Saturday 1st June, for this year’s Carnival Family Fun Day at Victoria Park, organised by the Frome Street Carnival team.
Organisers have said the day was the ‘best yet’ raising just over £2,400, with funds still coming in, for the carnival procession in September. The day was filled with fun and entertainment and included stalls from local organisations and traders, the annual dog show and the Bonniest Baby competition.
“Wow, what a day we had on Saturday,” said, Mandy Morgan, a member of the carnival committee and one of the organisers of the day. “Thank you to our wonderful community, which came along and supported us all. This year’s event was the best yet and we had the biggest turn out of dogs for the dog show that we have ever had.
“We would like to give a special mention to Pete Dayman-Johns; the Park Rangers, the Army Cadets and the Rotary Club for helping us set up; the Frome Lions Club for the loan of their train carriages to complement our Thomas; and to Simon Rossetto at Recovery Frome for helping us transport everything.
“Also, a big thank you to our dog show organisers, Charlotte and Christina Cox, and our dog show judge, John Francis from Bellevue Vets. Last but definitely not least, a huge thank you to our Frome street carnival committee members who volunteered, gave up their time and worked so hard to host the event.”
Frome’s mayor cllr Andy Jones attended the day and said, “It was a privilege to open the Carnival Fun Day alongside our amazing town crier. I enjoyed a lovely sunny afternoon looking at the stalls and watching the events in the main ring. The Carnival raises lots of money for our local charities and provides unique entertainment for Frome.”
There was also a cheque presentation for the Friendship Club, Dogs for Health and Frome Birth Talk, which have all been chosen as Frome Street Carnival’s annual beneficiaries.
This year’s carnival will take place on Saturday 21st September.
