A reunion was recently held for former employees of one of Frome’s largest past employers, Cuprinol Ltd. at the Fox and Hounds, Tytherington.
Cuprinol operated successfully from its site at Adderwell, Frome, for over 40 years and became a highly successful player in the market for woodcare products, with the company employing 250 people, including 150 at Frome.
The purchase of Cuprinol by ICI Paints led to a review of group locations nationwide, resulting in the closure of the Frome site in 2001 and the transfer of the business to ICI at Slough. The Adderwell site has now been developed for housing.
Reunion organiser Graham Howard said, “Many people recall their time at Cuprinol with much fondness, both from a professional and social basis. The fact that almost 50 attended from the Frome area and around the country, with many having been with the company 20 to 30 years ago, is a tribute to the special nature of Cuprinol.”
