Bill Gates boosts Frome Rotary Club race night total

THE Rotary Club of Frome held a very successful Race Night recently, and their £2,600 raised has been turned into £7,800, thanks to American business magnate and philanthropist, Bill Gates. 

The race night was held on Friday 9th August at the Standerwick Centre.

Gill Barnes reports, “Chairman of the foundation committee, Rotarian Dennis Barnard, organised the evening which was in aid of Polio Plus. Some 90 Rotarians and their friends supported the evening and, after a splendid meal by caterer Sally Gregory and her staff, it was down to business.

“Six races were viewed on the large screen and everyone had a chance of buying a horse, or betting on the tote, and as always there were winners and losers, but the main winner of the evening was Polio Plus.

“The evening included a very successful auction, which raised in excess of £2,600. This amount will be trebled by America’s Bill Gates, chairman of Microsoft International which will give Polio Plus £7,800. Bill Gates is a champion donor to Polio Plus worldwide, and works closely with Rotary International for the eradication of Polio.

“Grateful thanks were given to David Millard who did a tremendous job selling the horses and to Dennis Barnard for conducting the auction. Thanks also were given to all the sponsors, many of them Rotarians but especially to T.MT.I. Ltd (Crispin Thomas), Angela Yeoman, Windy Ridge Cheese Company, Wainwrights Quarry, Barnes Coachworks, Deacon’s of Warminster, Cooper & Tanner Ltd and Frome Livestock Auctions.
