FROME resident, Evelyn Cullen, celebrated her 100th birthday on Monday 30th September with a party at Wesley Church Hall surrounded by family and friends.
Evelyn was born in London in 1919 but moved to Frome at the age of 14, where she lived in a flat at 2 North Parade with her mother and father.
It was then that she started working at Butler & Tanner and that was the start of many occupations throughout the years.
She was an active member of various clubs in Frome such as: Solo Club, where she was treasurer and committee member; Cruse, a club for bereaved people where she was also treasurer, and founding member at the Thursday Club held at Park Road.
Evelyn also arranged regular coach trips, independently and for clubs, until the age of 94.
After the death of her husband Ron in 1989 she moved in with her daughter and son-in-low at Critchill Road, where she still resides. Sadly, her daughter died 18 months ago and she is now cared for by her son-in-law, Ivor Ashman, who says, “Her memory is amazing, and she can do crossword puzzles better than me!”
