A TECHNICAL error has been blamed for members of Frome Sport & Fitness leisure centre having to pay additional fees to use the swimming pool.
Frome local, Doug Campbell and his wife – who pay £70 a month for a joint membership – were shocked when they had to pay an additional £20 to book a family swim session for them and their 18-month old child.
“I spoke to a lady on reception before booking and she said it would be free to members if you booked under your membership number online,” explained Doug. “This wasn’t the case so I rang them back, she said it was an issue they were looking into, but we had to pay the £20 (£8 each and £4 for our 18 month old) if we wanted to go swimming. She did not offer a refund.”
However, since complaining, the leisure centre has issued an apology and has assured members that it is rectifying the “glitch” in its booking system.
Management company for Frome Sport & Fitness, Fusion Lifestyle, told Frome Times, “We can confirm that due to a very recent technical error on our booking system, individual and joint members may have been charged an additional fee when they booked family swimming sessions.
“We are rectifying the glitch in the system to ensure that all members receive appropriate access to swimming as part of their membership, and apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused. Any members who were wrongly charged will of course be refunded.”
