A bowls club is holding a summer-long fundraiser in memory of a Frome baby while supporting her family’s campaign to raise awareness of a serious pregnancy condition.
Members of Frome Selwood Bowling Club will play a weekly ‘spider’ competition every Monday until the end of the season to raise money for the family’s fundraising efforts.
Sienna Rose Stedman was stillborn at 37 weeks on 24 September 2025. Following her death, her parents discovered her mother, Natalie Harley, had been suffering from Intrahepatic Cholestasis of Pregnancy (ICP), a condition that can pose serious risks during pregnancy if left undiagnosed.
The family are campaigning to raise awareness of ICP and calling for routine bile acid testing to be made mandatory for all pregnant women.
Sienna Rose’s grandparents, Karen and Brian Harley and Rachael Bourne, recently visited the bowls session on behalf of her parents to thank members for their support.
They said, “Losing Sienna has been utterly heartbreaking for us all. If there had been more awareness and testing, our beautiful granddaughter would be with us today.
“Our fundraising is going well and we will always be so grateful to everyone who has donated so far. We are overwhelmed by people’s generosity so far but we need to keep going if we are to succeed in making a change to ensure this doesn’t happen to any other baby or family again, which is why we are so appreciative of the support offered to us by Kim, Michael and the members of Frome Selwood Bowls Club.”
The fundraiser follows an earlier Bath and Bristol Railway Run in April, when family friends raised money towards ICP research and training, as well as awareness of the condition.
One of the organisers of the bowls club fundraiser, Kim, said, “We wanted to do something to support and help them fundraise. We thought it would be quite nice to keep something going and also to keep the fundraiser going and the awareness going too.
“We recently did a cake sale at Little Pickles and not many mums had heard of ICP. It can be picked up on a simple blood test.”
The game sees a ‘jack’ rolled out into the middle of the green. Players can take part for £1 and take it in turns to see who can get their bowl closest to the jack.
