THE work to install the concrete chamber for the fountain works at Boyle Cross has been completed and Frome Town Council’s contractor, Dave Lucey Limited, is making good progress in laying the paved area and the new loading bay near King Street.
This work will transform the appearance of this part of Frome’s Market Place and the setting of the Boyle Cross monument.
Frome Town Council can confirm that the Christmas Light Switch On will go ahead on Friday 1st December as planned and that the markets will return to Boyle Cross, including the bumper Christmas market held by The Frome Independent, on Sunday 3rd December. There will be full public access to both the Boyle Cross area and Cheap Street from then until early New Year.
Frome Town Council has decided to postpone some of the planned paving work in front of the TSB and the lower end of Cheap Street until early in the New Year. This is because Scottish and Southern Electric now need to lay new electricity cables from the Eagle Lane sub-station to the bottom of Cheap Street.
Cllr Toby Eliot said, “Our forecasts still indicate that the Boyle Cross project will be completed within our budget. It’s great that the area will be open for everyone to use by 1st December and the last the element of the project – laying the electrical cable – will be done in the very early new year.”
Peter Wheelhouse, deputy town clerk and project manager said, “We have listened to the town centre traders who have indicated that they want to see the area open for the vital pre-Christmas period. We recognise how important this time is for businesses and wish to ensure that they can trade without any constraint to access.”
