A keen home brewer in Frome is on a mission to bring residents together by launching a community brewing space to support social connection and offer affordable beer.
Cole Henley is looking for a location with running water, electricity and a space to clean equipment in order to launch the project, which he says will offer social and wellbeing opportunities for all residents, but particularly middle-aged men.
“The space will provide affordable and tasty beer, which is much needed as Frome prices reach £6.50 a pint in some places. Whilst it would also be open to all adults, such a space could be especially valuable among a demographic of middle-aged men who find talking and socialising difficult.
“Similar spaces are run elsewhere in the country, either on a membership or donation basis, with some success – and it is hoped that would help support the running costs and utilities.”
Following initial chats with Frome Town Council and Edventure, which supports people to build social enterprises and community action groups that have a positive impact locally, Cole says he is struggling to get the project off the ground.
He said, “I have some equipment and a small degree of expertise I can offer, as well as time, but the one thing we need – and I am struggling with – is a space to host the endeavour.
“Frome has a great community, and yet so many spaces that are poorly utilised. It would be great if we can find a generous soul in our town to accommodate this venture.”
