A long-serving captain who helped bring Frome Bridge Club back from near extinction has stepped down from the committee after 15 years.
Captain Marianne Lewin has retired to allow younger members to take the helm and continue the modernisation and growth of the club.
To mark her retirement from the committee, Marianne has been made an honorary life member of the club.
Marianne was part of the duo who, with recently retired secretary John Perry, helped bring the club back from near extinction 15 years ago.
Club chair Ray Nicholson said, “The pair worked as a team, inspiring all with their enthusiasm and knowledge, bringing the club to its healthy position today, where it is a thriving part of Frome’s social community. As club captain, Marianne has been tireless in the effort she has put into her teaching and organisation over the past 15 years; she will continue teaching and directing.
“Frome Bridge Club is currently drawing up plans for its new teaching year, which starts in October; the committee is keen to attract a new cohort of bridge players of all ages. A bridge display session, designed to give an insight into how the game is played, is planned for early September in Frome Library. More details to follow.”
