As anyone who has recently been to Fromefield will have noticed, there has been rapid progress with the building on the new £10.5million health centre. The company contracted to build the project is Interserve Construction Limited. The company’s senior quantity surveyor at the new build, Andy Davies, explains the stage the project has now reached. He said, “After three months of site levelling and substructure works carried out in the autumn, the project has undergone a dramatic transformation since Christmas. “The building has emerged from the ground as the steel frame has been erected, roof cladding has begun and all concrete floor slabs have been cast. The blockwork to the external and internal walls is also advancing well and overall the project has gained significant momentum towards the completion date of December 2012.” The senior partner at Frome Medical Practice is Dr Tina Merry. She said, “Everyone here at the practice, from all members of staff to our patients’ participation group, is extremely excited at what they now see emerging. After literally years looking at plans and drawings, we are now able to look at a real building in the making.” In addition to the medical teams, the building will also house an optician, a pharmacy and a café. Other services are planned to follow. Dr Merry added, “Next door to the community hospital, Frome is going to have a medical facility that will be the envy of every other town. Once we are fully operational, then the people of Frome and surrounding area will be able to have minor operations and other treatment carried out in their own town, rather than having to travel to the RUH in Bath.” Regular updates on the progress of the new building can be found at the practice’s website at www.fromemedicalpractice.co.uk.
